Drug Purchase & Supply

Drug Purchase & Supply

The Pharmacy Business and Distribution Centre (PB&DC), is a suitably designed warehouse located about half a mile from all the key sites.

The centre is the base of the procurement team that is responsible for the sourcing drugs, purchasing, raising debtor notes, contracting and invoice matching.

The centre acts as the main store for the activities of the Inner London Procurement Consortium. This Consortium, comprising seven other Trusts, pool their purchasing power to achieve lowest acquisition cost.

The current turnover is over £28 million and has demonstrated savings compared to NHS prices of over £8 million.

The PB&DC not only provides drugs to UCLH Trust but to other neighbouring Trusts e.g. Camden & Islington Community Trust, St. Pancras Hospital, Whittington Hospital and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

The PB&DC has developed two publications which it has offered to Trusts nationally:

"Solutions"

A weekly publication that lists those drugs which are currently not available. The bulletin explains the reasons for the shortage of the drug and suggests an alternative. Also, listed are recent changes to product licences and MCA recalls.

Solutions is now available online at UCLHSolutions.com. The site contains all of the information from the Solutions bulletin, plus the discontinued product list, MCA recalls and recent product licenses.

The "Discontinued Product List" which provides information as to when products have been discontinued. This should help determine when alternative drugs should be prescribed.
