Medicines Information
The medicines information centre for the Trust is located at the Pharmacy, Middlesex Hospital. Like many other hospital drug information services queries are received from a wide range of health care professionals. However, since the Trust has so many specialist clinical services the queries can often require more expert skills. Support is also given to nearby private hospitals.
The focus of the information services is to be proactive and try and reduce the number of queries. Consequently, the centre provides the source of many lectures and training opportunities.
The MI centre was one of the original group that developed CINDERS, which is the medicines information database used by the London region. It regularly uses many other computerised databases as information sources and has produced a Tropical Diseases database because of the queries emanating from the Hospital For Tropical Diseases, which is part of UCL Hospitals Trust.
The medicines information centre tries not only to provide fast and accurate responses to queries but hopes to answer these in a friendly and supportive manner.
Regular weekly early morning seminars and informative sponsored lunch-time presentations are organised to increase the educational opportunities for all the staff.
Many medical students and academics frequently use the service because of its excellent local reputation.
