Patient Services
Efficient dispensary services are essential for the success of the pharmacy department. All dispensed items are supplied from three dispensaries located at the UCH, Middlesex and NHNN sites. Each prescription is professionally screened to ensure patient safety and cost effective prescribing.
Patients are counselled at every opportunity to increase compliance and develop further the principles of concordance.
The dispensaries also provide a comprehensive topping up service to all the wards and departments. Clinical trial material for upwards of 90 studies is stored in designated areas for supply and data recording.
Like many other hospitals, UCLH is moving towards a more technician led service. As a consequence, the pharmacy is increasing its numbers of accredited technicians who can perform the final check, following clinical screening by a pharmacist.
A residency service provides out of hours emergency pharmacy services.Such a scheme is essential for this busy teaching Trust. The residency service is only one of a few to be found in London.
A team of resident pharmacists provides 24 hour cover for advice and information, and the supply of urgently required drugs. The resident pharmacists are supported by the rest of the team of pharmacists and responds to over 200 calls per week when the Department is closed.
