Quality Control
The Quality Assurance service is presently operated from the QC Laboratory at Latimer House, 40 Hanson Street, London W1W 6UL, which is near the Middlesex Hospital.
The Aim Of The Quality Assurance Service
To support the Pharmaceutical Production Unit by providing the necessary analytical facilities for it to maintain its MHRA Specials Manufacturing Licence (as required by the EC Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice).
The service also supports the dispensaries, the centralised stores that has a Wholesale Dealers Licence and the Estates Officer in the testing of medical gas pipelines. Environmental monitoring is also provided to the Mallinckrodt Radiopharmacy service located at the Middlesex Hospital.
Dept Background
Analytical facilities were introduced in a small way in the mid 1960's in the UCH Cruciform building. The work and laboratories were gradually consolidated and extended during the 1970's.
In 1982 the laboratory was relocated and re-equipped in larger premises located between UCH and Middlesex. Since then the laboratory has been computerised and some equipment has been modernised. In the early days the emphasis was on the analysis of pharmaceuticals and raw materials.
Gradually Quality Assurance and environmental aspects have grown to now assume equal importance with analysis.
