Trust Profile
University College London Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the most prestigious and forward thinking Trusts in the UK. The extensive research facilities have fostered many Nobel prizes winners in every major specialty.
The Trust has grown over the past 10 years and now comprises a number of separate hospitals, each an established centre of excellence and are currently located on different sites providing healthcare of the highest quality:
- University College Hospital (UCH)
- Middlesex Hospital (MH)
- National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN)
- Eastman Dental Hospital (EDH)
- Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD)
- United Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital and Hospital for Women, Soho (EGA)
Following two major NHS reorganisations and several local mergers the Pharmacy Department at University College London Hospitals NHS Trust was restructured from the combined Middlesex and University College Hospital Pharmacy Departments in April 1993.
In April 1996 UCLH merged with the Pharmacy department at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN).
The integration of these hospitals has led to Pharmacy patient services being provided on three of the sites (Middlesex, UCH and NHNN) which then service the remaining clinical areas. Effective communication is therefore a priority.
The widespread use of e-mail and the monthly departmental newsletter "Noticeboard" are examples of some of the communication tools used. Currently the department is involved in planning for the new UCLH Hospital which will result in a major rebuild on the UCH site and reduce the number of clinical sites. This new development will create a service fit for the millennium, both from an environmental and technological perspective.
The Department is well placed to meet the challenges of the changing NHS and also looks forward to having the most modern facilities over the next few years.
